Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in Social Work
Diversity plays a central role in social work. This training provides core DEI knowledge and practical strategies for working with diversity in the non-profit and social sector.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) are now key leadership and organisational principles for many employers. In the field of social work, however, managing diversity presents different challenges than in the private sector. This seminar provides a comprehensive introduction to the foundations of Diversity & Inclusion and shows how these principles can be applied to the practice of social work.
Social work takes place in an environment shaped by a wide range of differences. These include cultural and religious diversity as well as diversity in age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and many other dimensions. While this diversity poses specific challenges, it also opens up important opportunities for professional practice.
This seminar introduces both the theoretical foundations and practical fields of diversity management. Participants become familiar with the diversity categories that are particularly relevant in the German context and explore the specific challenges that arise from their interaction. These interconnections—understood through the lens of intersectionality—create complex requirements for social work practice.
The seminar approaches Diversity & Inclusion from two perspectives: from the viewpoint of the target groups of social work, and from the perspective of organisations as employers. A particular focus is placed on how appreciation of diversity can be actively fostered in a multicultural society—even where categories may appear to be in conflict with one another, such as religion or ethnic background in relation to sexual orientation.
The aim of the seminar is to raise awareness of the complexity of diversity and to equip participants with practical strategies for implementing Diversity & Inclusion in social work in a reflective, professional, and effective way.
